Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is a 2017 American comedy drama fantasy film directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. It's the fifth film of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and a standalone sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).
Why it's great[]
- Differently than the fourth film, this movie actually comes back to have an interesting and engaging story with Jack and Henry Turner trying to break the curse of Will.
- The humor is clever and funny
- The cast did a great performance, especially Johnny Depp and Javier Bardem.
- Jack and Henry have good chemistry, which reminds of Jack and Will in the first three movies.
- Jack Sparrow being depressed and drunk is both funny and heartbreaking.
- Henry Turner is a good character.
- Great soundtrack by Geoff Zanelli, a student of Hans Zimmer.
- Carina Smyth is a great character and a strong female protagonist, with Kaya Scodelario playing her perfectly.
- Salazar, despite being unsympathetic, is a good villain and Javier Bardem did a great job playing him.
- The action scenes are incredible
- The scene where the Black Pearl comes back is memorable and emotional.
- The special effects are outstanding
- The ending is heartwarming.
- It brings the franchise to the style of the first three movies.
Bad Qualities[]
- Carina is initially unlikable as she acts really mean towards Jack and is really disrespectful to him and Henry.
- Barbossa can be annoying at times before he reedems himself especially when he threatens to cut Jack's tongue.
